World Series Game 7 Attracts Over 50 Million Audience Members Across the US, Canada and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting extended clash that saw the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total 51M viewers in the United States, Canadian, and Japanese territories. MLB stated this marks the highest-rated Fall Classic finale after the 1991 contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s epic game secured over 27 million audience members on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It additionally is the most-watched Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 final game involving the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the last finale between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, the fourth game ranked 7th, the fifth game was eighth, and Game 3 finished in 13th position.

International Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the game drew 11.6M viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English broadcast in Canada after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – drew 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a single network in the country.

Series Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series averaged over 15.7 million viewers on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen audience increases for two consecutive seasons.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the complete American viewership was 16.1M. The total Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels drew over 8 million watchers, an 8% increase compared to last year and the network’s strongest postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 different tongues.
