The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

Whenever a significant awards ceremony nears, you'll find a clamor for introducing of new categories to honor unsung work and delight the spirits of followers dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. So would tabletop games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize just as with other single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case for why my demand stands as crucial and important of all. This is the request: There should be a category for puzzle games.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and typically generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise within the realm of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse they hardly constitute as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these classifications covering Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these six categories successfully include numerous genres, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Consider three of recent excellent titles, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition at major award shows, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated in any category during that awards season
  • A different innovative game missed out in 2019
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
  • Only a few brain-teasers managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're modest productions, however the design behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most engaged experiences in the world maintaining this status for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience competes with famous sandbox experiences competing to become most purchased experience; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. One could readily select a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these are games that otherwise have no home in important events. Puzzle game makers operate at the hard edge of video game design, producing among most fundamental forms of the video game form. Comparable to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait generations.
