Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of characters who will split off from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear unsuited, but the events of episode 3 show why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team knows exactly where to go next after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing started the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each member has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and advises that it is a nasty environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the team enter places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the family.

This means them few options but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Questers and Strategists tables.

Viewers can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
